Alberto Guillermo Arias

Alberto is a medical doctor graduated from the University of Buenos Aires, Argentina. He completed a year of residency in Anatomic Pathology at Hospital General de Agudos Carlos G. Durand, followed by three years of clinical practice in Internal Medicine in Bariloche, Argentina.
Since September 2021, he has been fully dedicated to research as a PhD student at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Buenos Aires, working in the Translational Research Department at the Bariloche Atomic Center, Argentina. His PhD thesis focuses on developing therapeutic strategies for high-grade gliomas, exploring both photodynamic therapy and peptide-targeted radiotherapy with lutetium-177, with the aim of evaluating their efficacy and understanding their mechanisms of action at the preclinical level.
From September to December 2021, he undertook a research visit at the University of Tartu (Estonia) under the supervision of Dr. Pablo Scodeller, where he worked on preclinical studies of photodynamic therapy using cyclic peptide conjugates. In November and December 2024, he completed a clinical rotation at FLENI Institute in Buenos Aires, training in Neuropathology, Molecular Biology, and Neurosurgery, and gaining experience in the clinical and surgical management of central nervous system tumors.
Currently, he investigates the expression of SNAP25 in high-grade gliomas, focusing on its role in tumor biology and its potential as a therapeutic target.
